Stefano Perfetti is a medieval and early modern philosophy historian with a graduation cum laude from University of Pisa and PhD from University of Turin. He is assistant professor (“ricercatore”) of History of Medieval Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Pisa. His research interests include history of philosophy in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Aristotelian traditions, philosophers and animals.
He has published many articles on late-Medieval and Renaissance Aristotelianism, focussing on the clash/encounter between scholastic commentary, humanistic philology and the emergence of the early modern attitude towards animals (most notably a contribution in A Cultural History of Animals, on “Philosophers and Animals in the Renaissance”, Oxford-New York 2007). His books include Aristotle’s Zoology and its Renaissance Commentators (1521-1601) (Leuven 2000) and the critical edition of Pietro Pomponazzi’s commentary on Aristotle’s Parts of Animals (Expositio super primo et secundo De partibus animalium, Florence 2004).
